STOLEN PROPERTY SEARCH LEADS TO DRUG BUST
Property burglaries have been on the rise in several mobile home parks across the county, and DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office is working hard to arrest the thieves that are responsible!
On March 20, 2023, DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office conducted a search warrant at 319 N 11th Avenue in reference to the location of stolen property in a series of burglaries. Our Criminal Investigative Division and members of the Narcotics Unit searched and recovered several stolen electric bike parts located within the home and in the suspect’s vehicle.
Both Shalana Cook and Kyle Chaney were questioned and detained. Detectives found 13.9 grams of Methamphetamine in Kyle’s pocket during the search, which led to a second search warrant where detectives found more Methamphetamine in the home. The total combined weight was 17.95 grams found. After further investigation both Shalana Cook and Kyle Chaney were arrested and transported to DeSoto County Jail.
Shalana Cook was arrested and charged with:
• 3 counts of Burglary of Conveyance
• Grand theft of a firearm
• Burglary of an Unoccupied Structure
• Grand theft valued between $5,000-$10,000
Kyle Chaney was arrested and charged with:
• Trafficking Methamphetamine
• Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigative Division (CID) continued their investigation after finding several photos and videos of the stolen electric bikes and parts on Kyle’s cell phone, as well as multiple text messages showing the intent to sell the bikes for drugs and money.
Based on the new evidence obtained in this investigation, new charges are as followed.
Kyle Chaney is arrested and charged with:
• 5 counts Burglary of Conveyance
• 2 counts Burglary of an Unoccupied Structure
• Burglary of an Unoccupied Home
• Grand theft of a Firearm
• 4 counts of Grand theft valued between $750-$5,000
• Grand theft valued over $100
Shalana Cook is arrested and charged with:
• 2 counts Burglary of Conveyance
• Burglary of Unoccupied Structure
• 4 counts of Grand theft valued between $750-$5,000
• Grand theft valued over $100
• Burglary while armed
