October 6, 2024 Updates From Emergency Management Tropical Storm Milton

A Message Form Governor DeSantis

As Tropical Storm Milton intensifies in the Gulf, I have issued Executive Order 24-214 in preparation for a potential landfall on Florida’s west coast this week. This order declares a state of emergency across 35 counties in Florida.

As recovery efforts from Hurricane Helene are ongoing, I have instructed the Florida Division of Emergency Management and the Florida Department of Transportation to mobilize all available personnel and resources to support local communities in speeding up debris removal in affected areas. We are also continuing to stage state assets to ensure swift search and rescue operations, power restoration, and road clearing.

School Closures

In light of Hurricane Milton, we are continuing to monitor the situation closely and have made the decision to close all schools for both students and staff from Monday, October 7 through Thursday, October 10. School administrators and custodial teams are required to report to their respective schools on Monday to prepare the buildings for the weather event. All buildings will close at noon on Tuesday, October 8 and remain closed through Thursday.
District offices will remain open on Monday but will close at noon on Tuesday, October 8, and remain closed through Thursday.
We appreciate everyone’s efforts in preparing for the storm and will continue to provide updates as the situation evolves. Stay safe, and we look forward to resuming normal operations as soon as possible.
Please stay connected with us through our website and social media for ongoing updates. Please remember that we will notify all families via calls and/or emails, in addition to social media and our website. Update your school’s contact information in the Skyward Parent Portal (Family Access) to ensure effective communication through our Skyward Skylert system.
