DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office
Over the weekend, DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office Cpl. Kaye responded to a disturbance where the suspect vehicle had already left the area. Cpl. Kaye passed the vehicle while en-route and turned around to make contact. The vehicle initially tried to avoid him. Eventually, the driver, Cameron Pruett, stopped and voluntarily approached Cpl. Kaye.
Sgt. Bierman and his crime-fighting partner, K-9 Lucy, arrived to assist. During a free air sniff of the vehicle, K-9 Lucy alerted to the odor of narcotics, leading to a lawful search of the vehicle.
Inside, deputies found methamphetamine in a bookbag—along with the pipe used to smoke it. Pruett chose that moment to flee on foot, but Mother Nature had other plans. A well-timed slip in the mud brought him down, allowing Cpl. Kaye to safely place him in handcuffs.
In addition to resolving the original disturbance call, deputies seized narcotics and arrested Pruett, who now faces multiple charges:
Possession of Controlled Substance (Methamphetamine)
Possession of Controlled Substance (THC Vape)
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
Shooting Into/Throwing Deadly Missiles into a Vehicle
Resisting without Violence
Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon (Vehicle)
Child Abuse (without Great Bodily Harm)
Possession of a Duplicate ID Card
Thanks to K-9 Lucy’s nose and our deputies’ quick response, Pruett is now incarcerated at the DeSoto County Jail.
Just another example of our team’s dedication to protecting DeSoto County!
