Florida Legislature Allocates $280 Million to Expand My Safe Florida Home Program

TALLAHASSEE, FL (July 28, 2025) — In a major step toward strengthening storm resilience across the state, the Florida Legislature has approved a $280 million allocation for the 2025-2026 fiscal year to expand the My Safe Florida Home (MSFH) Program. The renewed funding will support free wind-mitigation inspections and grants to help eligible homeowners reinforce their properties against hurricane damage.

The expansion comes as part of Florida’s ongoing effort to reduce storm-related losses and promote safer housing in vulnerable regions. However, funding is limited and will be distributed on a first come, first served basis.

Eligibility and Prioritization

Beginning July 1, 2025, only applicants falling within four specific income and age-based categories will qualify for inspections and grants:

  1. Low-Income Homeowners Age 60 and Older
(Household income at or below 80% of county median income)

  2. Low-Income Homeowners (All Ages)

  3. Moderate-Income Homeowners Age 60 and Older
(Household income below 120% of county median income)

  4. Moderate-Income Homeowners (All Ages)

Applicants must complete a Group Prioritization Questionnaire within their online program portal to determine eligibility and be assigned to one of the four categories.

Two-Step Application Process

The MSFH Program requires homeowners to follow a two-step process:

Step 1: Apply for a Free Wind-Mitigation Inspection
Participants must first create a portal account and request an inspection to identify eligible home improvements.

Step 2: Apply for a Grant
Once the inspection report is received, homeowners may then apply for a grant to help fund recommended mitigation upgrades.

Urgency Encouraged

With high demand and limited funds, state officials are urging eligible Floridians to act quickly. “We strongly encourage homeowners to apply as soon as possible,” said a program spokesperson. “This funding is a tremendous opportunity to protect homes and reduce insurance costs, but it will go fast.”
