FWC Seeks Public Input on Green Iguana Rule Changes
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is inviting public feedback on proposed rule changes regarding the management of green iguanas, a prohibited invasive species in the state.
The proposals include updates to outdoor caging, biosecurity, and transport rules for live green iguanas kept for sale, exhibition, or research. Additional topics include clarifying transport rules for prohibited reptiles, emergency preparedness, and collection practices.
FWC’s Nonnative Fish and Wildlife Program will host three virtual public meetings covering the same content:
Thursday, Sept. 4, 6–8 p.m. EDT
Friday, Sept. 5, 2–4 p.m. EDT
Saturday, Sept. 6, 10 a.m.–noon EDT

Comments can also be submitted through the online form or emailed to [email protected]. To be included in the November Commission meeting review, comments must be submitted by noon EDT, Oct. 20.
Green iguanas are one of more than 150 established nonnative species in Florida, where invasive wildlife threatens native ecosystems, human safety, and infrastructure.
