ARCADIA, Fla. – Residents of DeSoto County are invited to participate in a community-wide medication disposal event hosted by the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) in partnership with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). The event will take place on Saturday, October 28, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., at the sheriff’s office location, 208 E. Cypress St., Arcadia, Florida 34266. DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office+1
During this designated time, members of the DCSO Narcotics Unit will be present to accept unused or expired prescription medications for safe, anonymous disposal. The medication drop‐off will occur outside the east parking lot of the sheriff’s office. DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office+1
In addition to the one‐day event, the DCSO maintains a 24/7 drop‐box for year-round medication collection, allowing community members to safely dispose of unwanted pharmaceuticals at any time. WCXS 104.5 Classic County
Why It Matters
Unused or expired prescriptions left in homes pose serious risks, including theft, misuse, accidental overdose, and environmental contamination. What to Bring & How It Works
Acceptable items: solid dosage medications (tablets, capsules, patches) that are unused or expired.
Items typically not accepted: liquids, syringes, sharps, gels, or inhalers (check local rules).
Drop-off is anonymous — no questions asked.
Simply drive to the event location during the allotted hours and hand over your items.
