Sarasota is buzzing with excitement as Arts Advocates prepares for a fantastic array of events throughout May 2026! Kicking off the month, on May 2, is a special tribute celebrating the life of artist Beth Arthur, a true icon of the Sarasota Art Colony. At the sprightly age of 100, her contributions to the art community remain as vibrant as ever, making it a can’t-miss event for art lovers.

The highlight of the month promises to be the Annual Scholarship Awards Luncheon on May 14, where ten talented students from Sarasota and Manatee counties will each receive $5,000 scholarships to support their artistic education. This $50,000 total investment in the future of arts is sure to inspire the next generation of creative minds. Attendees can mingle with the scholarship recipients and get a firsthand look at their remarkable work.

But that’s not all—on May 18, art enthusiasts can enjoy a unique guided experience with “Behind the Curtain: Exploring the Van Wezel.” This tour affords guests a peek into the hall’s cultural riches, along with a visual treat featuring local artists’ works. It’s the perfect chance to learn more about this beloved venue’s history.

Throughout the month, the Arts Advocates Gallery will showcase “The Imagination of Art Venti,” featuring the intricate and thought-provoking pencil paintings of Art Venti. With an artist talk on May 19, visitors will dive deep into the creative processes fueling these stunning pieces. Art lovers in Sarasota are in for a delightful month filled with inspiration, education, and a whole lot of community spirit!
