Southwest Florida’s veteran community has a big day coming up this Saturday. Honor Flight is hosting a Christmas in July fundraiser at Charlie Foxtrot Brewing in Port Charlotte, and it’s one of those events that bridges entertainment with real purpose. From noon to 8 p.m., the brewery will buzz with live music, food, and even a visit from Santa. But underneath all that festive energy is something serious: over 500 veterans are currently waiting for their chance to visit the memorials in Washington, D.C. that honor their service. The organization safely transports these heroes, ensures they get the recognition they deserve, and creates the welcome-home moment that many never received when they first came home.
The fundraiser supports two critical missions. First, the money raised goes toward funding Honor Flight trips for waiting veterans, with special urgency for aging World War II and Korean War veterans whose window of opportunity grows smaller each year. Second, funds support Wreaths Across America, which places wreaths on graves at Sarasota National Cemetery during a December ceremony. For every wreath purchased at the event, Honor Flight receives five dollars. When you show up Saturday, you’re not just enjoying good music and food; you’re directly contributing to honoring men and women who gave everything for our country.
Naomi Copeland, president of Southwest Florida Honor Flight, describes the mission simply: “We safely transport veterans to their memorials in Washington D.C., honor them, and give them the welcome home they deserve.” With over 500 on the waiting list and time running out for some, this weekend’s event couldn’t come at a better moment.
