Goodwill just opened its third Bargain Barn location in Venice, and it’s shaking up the thrift shopping experience in the Gulf Coast community. Instead of traditional racks and shelves, shoppers dig through massive blue bins called “boats” filled with donated clothing, furniture, and household goods. Everything is priced by the pound at an average of $1.99, making it one of the most affordable shopping options around. The bins rotate every 20 to 30 minutes throughout the day, which means the entire inventory flips four or five times daily, keeping the selection fresh and exciting.
The new location, housed in the former Tervis headquarters, created 30 jobs and brings Goodwill’s total workforce in the Manasota area to over 800 employees. According to Alexa Olivas, VP of Operations, the mission behind the expansion goes far beyond retail. She emphasizes that approximately 90 cents of every dollar spent goes directly to Goodwill’s employment programs, making each purchase a direct investment in job creation for local residents. The Venice location is strategically positioned between existing Sarasota and North Port stores, serving the heart of our community.
