The Florida primary election is just a few weeks away on August 18, and if you plan to vote by mail, you have until August 6 at 5 p.m. to request your ballot. Sarasota County Supervisor of Elections Ron Turner is reminding voters to act now. You can make your request online through the supervisor of elections website, in person at their office, or by calling 941-861-8618. It only takes a few minutes, and your ballot will be mailed directly to you.
Florida operates as a closed primary state, which means only registered party members can vote in their party’s primary. But that doesn’t leave unaffiliated voters out entirely. You can still cast a ballot in nonpartisan races, including school board and city commission seats. These are the races that directly affect your community, from local taxes to education policy. So even if you’re an independent, your voice matters in this primary.
We all get busy with summer plans, beach trips, and enjoying the Suncoast sun. But don’t let this deadline sneak up on you.
