Clearwater Marine Aquarium has launched a monthly yoga series that puts participants right in front of the dolphin exhibits, and it turns out the dolphins are just as engaged as the humans. The sessions, led by Madeira Beach Yoga co-owner Sherry Duquet, give guests a chance to stretch and breathe while recovering dolphins get visual stimulation from the movement and people on the other side of the glass.
Duquet brings a deeply personal story to the mat. After losing three family members at once, she turned to yoga as a way to heal — and now she’s using that practice to help others and support the aquarium’s mission. The Clearwater Marine Aquarium is a working nonprofit animal hospital, so every class also supports the care and rehabilitation of sick and injured marine animals.
The classes are held monthly, and spots fill up fast. If you’re looking for a unique way to practice wellness on the Suncoast while supporting local marine life, this might be worth checking out. Have you ever done yoga in an unusual setting? We’d love to hear about it.
