Two kittens are recovering in St. Louis after being thrown from a moving pickup truck in a duffel bag on Monday afternoon. The kittens, both female and about 5.5 months old, were found covered in a chemical, possibly bleach, after a good Samaritan witnessed the act and pulled over to help near Manchester Road and Knox Avenue.
A passerby took the kittens to the Humane Society of Missouri, about a mile away, where staff cleaned them repeatedly and treated them for irritation around their ears and eyes. They are now in stable condition, but remain underweight and will need to be spayed before becoming available for adoption. The Humane Society is asking anyone with information to call the Animal Cruelty Task Force at 314-647-4400.
Robyn Dexter, marketing manager at the Humane Society of Missouri, called the kittens incredibly sweet and noted that animal cruelty cases tend to tick up during the summer months.
