An Amish buggy and a pickup truck collided Sunday afternoon on County Route 25 in Canton, New York, killing two people and sending at least eight others to area hospitals. The St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office has not released how the crash happened or the identities of those who died, and the investigation remained open Monday.
The scale of the response stood out. The sheriff’s office and multiple rescue agencies turned out, and St. Lawrence County Emergency Services Director Richard Rusaw said he had never personally seen an accident involving this many people. He described it simply as a tragic accident for everyone involved, from the witnesses to the responders.
