That bicycle tucked in the back of your garage could be the difference between someone in Manatee County making it to work or missing a shift. Turning Points, a Bradenton-based nonprofit, is collecting used bicycles and giving them to residents who don’t have reliable transportation. Volunteers repair and refurbish each donation before it goes out the door, so recipients get a bike that’s ready to ride, not a project.
The program isn’t a small side effort. Turning Points says it has already given away roughly 800 bikes this year, each one serving as a practical lifeline for getting to jobs, medical appointments, and other essential errands. For people without a car, a bike isn’t a hobby. It’s how they stay employed and stay on top of their health.
