A fatal hit-and-run case that’s been pending for nearly two years is finally moving toward a resolution. Christopher Quezada-Cerros, 20, appeared in a Manatee County courtroom Tuesday, where his defense announced that a plea agreement with the state is being worked out. He had been scheduled for trial on October 12 after entering a not guilty plea, but the case is now set for a plea agreement hearing on November 10, 2026.
The charges stem from a November 20, 2024 crash on US-41. Dail Wayne Sullivan Jr. was walking his bicycle when he was struck. He was taken to Blake Medical Center, where he later died. Quezada-Cerros, who was 18 at the time of the crash, was arrested hours later and faces charges of leaving the scene of a crash involving death and driving with a suspended license. He is currently out of custody on $25,150 bond.
For Suncoast residents, this case carries weight beyond the courtroom. US-41 is a road many of us travel daily, and pedestrians and cyclists share it with cars at all hours.
