A sophomore from Sarasota is coming home from Scotland with some serious hardware. Brooke Stevens of Cardinal Mooney Catholic High School won the Senior Girls Championship at the World School Games, an international tournament that brought together student-athletes from around the globe. She represented her school, her team, and her country, and she did it as an underclassman competing against older players.
Stevens and the Lady Cougars made program history just by competing outside the United States, and the team’s 2026 season came together despite weather-related practice cancellations that would have derailed plenty of squads. Head coach Tara McClean says Stevens has always carried herself with maturity and a high golf IQ, while teammate Addison Crutchfield sees the international win as motivation for the entire roster.
Her advice for young athletes is refreshingly simple: start young, and practice as consistently as you can. Stevens is also this week’s ABC7 Athlete of the Week, and her coach says she is just getting started.
