The Suncoast is trading sunshine for umbrellas this week. A weak front has stalled over Florida, and it’s going to keep the rain chances elevated from Sarasota down through Bradenton for several days. Tuesday brings roughly 80% rain coverage at the coast and 90% inland, and Wednesday looks like the wettest day of the stretch, with locally heavy downpours and thunderstorms in the forecast.
By the time the pattern eases on Saturday, most of us will have picked up 1 to 3 inches of rain, with higher totals in spots where storms linger. If you live near one of the area’s flood-prone intersections, give yourself extra time on the morning commute. Boaters should also plan around Wednesday night, when winds increase to 15 to 20 knots and seas build to 2 to 3 feet.
Meanwhile, the National Hurricane Center is monitoring a low-pressure area likely to form in the southwestern Gulf of Mexico midweek, giving it a 40% chance of tropical development within seven days. That’s a number to watch, not a reason to worry. October storms in the Gulf are common, and there’s no indication of a direct Suncoast impact right now. We’ll keep tracking it and bring you updates as the week goes on.
