If there is Gatorade in your fridge or your car trunk, this is worth two minutes. Gatorade has recalled more than 122,000 cases of its drinks across 37 states, Florida included, after the FDA found undeclared Yellow No. 5 and Yellow No. 6 in certain bottles. The recall covers 28-ounce bottles of Lemon Lime, Lemon Lime Zero, Orange and Orange Zero, which means some of the most common flavors on the shelf are in the mix.
The FDA gave the recall a Class II designation. That means temporary or medically reversible health effects are possible, but serious harm is considered unlikely. The bigger concern here is for people with dye sensitivities, who rely on ingredient labels to make safe choices. When a dye shows up that is not on the label, that trust breaks down. The affected products were distributed to 37 states, including California, Texas and New York, and no full store-by-store list has been released yet.
So what do you do? Check the lot and date codes on your 28-ounce bottles against the FDA recall notice, and if they match, return the product to the store where you bought it. And if you are stocking coolers for youth sports or a beach weekend, it might be worth skipping those four flavors for now. Have you checked your fridge yet? Let us know what you found.
