A Toledo firefighter faces abduction charges after allegedly handcuffing her boyfriend, a fellow firefighter and captain, to a staircase railing and refusing to let him go. The details come straight from a 911 call placed by the man’s friend early in the morning. The caller told dispatchers the victim showed up around 4 a.m. and said he had to gnaw his way free from the handcuffs because his girlfriend would not release him. She was worried he might be injured.
Kenasia Guilford, 33, has been charged with abduction and other offenses. Investigators say she took the man’s car and his phone, then broke into his home, where police eventually found her hiding. She appeared in court Monday, where a judge set bond at $10,000, issued a no-contact order, and required an ankle monitor. Her attorney told the court the series of incidents grew out of a relationship situation and information Guilford learned that he described as traumatic for anyone to hear.
Two first responders trained to run toward danger are now the center of a domestic violence case that has people talking. What stands out to you more: the bizarre escape, or the reality that these situations can happen in any household, uniforms included?
