An 84-year-old Lake Charles, Louisiana man faces charges after deputies searched his home on October 2nd and say they found an explosives operation running about 500 feet from a school. John W. Sinkankas is accused of manufacturing and selling explosive devices from the residence, according to the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators say the devices were designed to look like ordinary fireworks, but testing revealed they contained an illegal amount of explosive materials. Deputies seized several pounds of explosive powders, roughly 18 pounds of explosive precursors, numerous homemade explosives, and materials used for assembly. Sinkankas was booked on a charge of manufacture and possession of a delayed action incendiary device and released the following day on a $150,000 bond. Authorities say additional charges are possible.
