Country Music Hall of Famer John Anderson has died at 71. His family announced the news on his official social media pages, remembering him as a beloved husband, father, grandfather and best friend. A cause of death has not been released.
Anderson was a fixture on country radio for decades, racking up 20 top 10 hits including “Swingin’,” “Straight Tequila Night” and “Seminole Wind.” “Swingin’” earned him the CMA Horizon Award and Single of the Year, and he spent his early years opening shows for Merle Haggard, George Jones and Willie Nelson.
The honors came late but they came: the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2014, then the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2024. Kyle Young, CEO of the Hall of Fame and Museum, said Anderson “was already a diamond then, and a diamond he always will be.” What’s your favorite John Anderson song? Tell us in the comments.
