A 25-year-old Greenville County man, Terron Lamon Banks, has been charged with four counts of first-degree burglary along with grand larceny and voyeurism after deputies linked him to a string of September break-ins where women were home alone. One of the entries happened through an unlocked window while a woman was asleep. Spartanburg County deputies arrested him at a bus station as he tried to board a bus to Atlanta, and investigators are now reviewing five other similar incidents that may be connected.
Sheriff Hobart Lewis noted that the pattern likely didn’t begin in Greenville County, which is why investigators are casting a wider net. DNA evidence has been sent to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division for processing, and the sheriff’s office is asking any additional victims to call 864-467-5300. The arrest came together because two counties communicated and acted quickly.
For those of us on the Suncoast, the story lands close to home for a practical reason. Our region has plenty of residents who live alone, and plenty more who spend part of the year somewhere else, leaving homes quiet for extended stretches. That quiet doesn’t go unnoticed. Take a walk around your property this week, confirm every window latch and door lock, and make a point of knowing the neighbors who might need a second set of eyes.
