At the Fort Thomas Post Office, Marchelle Bertram wasn’t just the person behind the desk. Customers called her “the nice lady at the post office” because that’s the feeling she left with everyone who walked in. On October 15, Marchelle was hit and killed by a car while walking on Memorial Parkway near her home in Bellevue, Kentucky. She died at the hospital from her injuries.
Her daughter Whitney rushed to the hospital that night and says the injuries were too severe. Whitney also says the driver stayed at the scene and she believes the crash was an accident. The community has shared an outpouring of support, describing Marchelle as kind and well-known across the area. “I miss her like crazy,” Whitney said. “I try not to think about it too hard because I’ll break down.”
The loss speaks to something many of us carry: the quiet bonds we form with people we see every week, and the way those routines hold whole neighborhoods together. Whitney offered words that land hard this week: “You’re never truly gone until you’re forgotten about.” Marchelle is already deeply missed, and that much is clear.
