Tuesday, Nov. 3, is Election Day, and the ballot is enormous. All 435 House seats, 35 Senate seats, and governor’s races in 36 states are up for grabs. Republicans are defending their congressional majority through the final two years of President Trump’s second term, while Democrats are working to flip both chambers. Senate races in Texas, Michigan, and Alaska are polling as toss-ups, meaning control could hinge on a handful of tight contests.
The Supreme Court is also back at work. Its November argument session runs Nov. 2 through Nov. 10, with seven hours of arguments across five days. The case drawing the most attention is St. Mary Catholic Parish v. Roy, argued Tuesday, which asks whether a Catholic preschool’s exclusion from Colorado’s universal preschool program amounts to religious discrimination. The ruling could influence how religious institutions access public programs nationwide, including here in Florida.
For Suncoast residents, both stories connect to daily life. Governor’s races shape state policy, congressional control shapes federal funding, and many snowbirds still vote in the states where these toss-up races are happening. Whether you’re casting a ballot in Sarasota or back in Michigan, this week’s decisions travel.
