Sarasota Police have charged 32-year-old Josue Zepeda-Urbina in connection with the death of a woman found unresponsive early Sunday at the Applegate Apartments in the 1500 block of North Lockwood Ridge Road. He faces one count of murder and three counts of burglary of an occupied dwelling. The charges are allegations, and the case remains under investigation.
According to a probable-cause affidavit, officers responded shortly after 4 a.m. Sunday. The woman was pronounced dead shortly after 4:30 a.m. A witness told detectives that Zepeda-Urbina forced his way into the apartment and into a bedroom where other people were present, then stabbed the woman in the neck with a screwdriver. Investigators said the two knew each other. Police later located his vehicle and took him into custody without incident.
A violent death inside a residential complex is unsettling for any neighborhood, and the legal process here is just beginning.
