The Peace River in Arcadia rose to 10 feet on Monday and was forecast to hit 12 feet by 7 p.m., prompting dozens of campers to evacuate the Peace River Campground. Guests spent the day moving belongings and stored RVs to higher ground as the water crept closer. The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for the Peace River until further notice.

Campground maintenance employee Henry Crews said the crew was steadily relocating stored campers as the river rose. Longtime resident Tia Karbach noted that a stretch of shoreline once used as a community beach is now underwater. While many campers left, some year-round residents said they plan to stay put.
