More than 10 inches of rain fell across parts of the Suncoast on Monday, and that water is still making its way into the Peace River. Flooding concerns continue through Thursday afternoon in DeSoto County, so residents near the river should stay alert even as skies brighten between storms.
Wednesday and Thursday both bring scattered afternoon storms. Wednesday’s most likely window is between 3 and 4 p.m., with a high near 86 that will feel warmer because of the humidity. If you have outdoor plans, mornings are your friend. Beachgoers and boaters can expect water temperatures around 84 with moderate chop, and the Atlantic remains quiet, with one system off to the east holding a 40% chance of development over seven days and no threat to the U.S.
The pattern finally shifts this weekend. A weak cold front moves through Saturday night and ushers in noticeably drier, more comfortable air, with Sunday’s low dropping considerably. A stronger front Tuesday could bring another round of cooler, drier air. It’s the kind of stretch that makes fall on the Gulf Coast worth the wait.
Are you keeping an eye on the Peace River, or are you just counting down to Sunday’s cooldown?
