Democrats have won majorities in both the House and Senate, flipping seats that had been in Republican hands for years, and DNC Chairman Ken Martin is wasting no time setting the agenda. His message: the focus is your cost of living. That means rolling back tariffs and moving to reverse cuts to social safety net programs, including the repeal of what critics call the “Big Ugly Bill,” which Martin says cut Medicaid and SNAP to fund tax breaks for the wealthy.
The agenda doesn’t stop at your wallet. Democrats say they can walk and chew gum at the same time, meaning they plan legislative maneuvers to force an end to the war in Iran while also using committee gavels to investigate alleged executive branch corruption. Martin stopped short of endorsing impeachment proceedings against Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, saying only that Hegseth “will be held accountable.”
For Suncoast households, the stakes are concrete: what you pay at the grocery store, whether your Medicaid coverage holds, and whether food assistance keeps pace with prices. Whether the new majorities can turn campaign promises into signed law is the question that will define the next two years. We want to hear from you: what cost would you want Congress to tackle first?
