A 17-year-old is facing two counts of murder and three counts of attempted murder after a shooting inside a Spirit Halloween store in Solano County, California on October 30th. The attack killed 31-year-old Constance Hages, a pregnant mother of four, and her unborn child. Six other people were injured, and four remained hospitalized as of Monday, including a 19-year-old in critical condition. The teen appeared in juvenile court Wednesday and is being held without bail while prosecutors push to try the case in adult court.

The shooting has left a family shattered. Hages’ relatives released a statement saying the loss has left behind four children, grieving parents, and a family facing a pain words can barely hold. A GoFundMe has been organized to cover funeral expenses and support her children. Meanwhile, the six injured victims and their families are facing their own long roads, including one young man still in critical condition.

For Gulf Coast communities, this story lands close to home even from across the country. Seasonal stores appear overnight this time of year, parking lots fill up, and families go shopping for costumes without a second thought. This case raises hard questions about juvenile justice, gun access, and safety in public spaces, and none of them have easy answers. What do you think should happen next in this case?
