The bags fly November 21 in Myakka City. The annual Turkey Toss cornhole tournament runs 9:15 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 8223 Verna Bethany Rd., with tournament play starting at 9:45 and prizes for the top three teams. Registration is $200 and includes tournament entry, an open bar, a catered lunch and a T-shirt.
Can’t throw a bag? You can still help. The cash bar, lunch, whiskey pull and silent auction are open to anyone who wants to support the cause. Every dollar benefits the Children’s Dream Fund, a St. Petersburg nonprofit that grants dreams to children battling serious illnesses. Last year’s event raised $20,000 after costs, and organizers want to beat that total. This year’s proceeds have already sponsored two children, one from Bradenton and one from Myakka City.
The story behind the event runs deep. Organizer Matt Baar and his brother both battled cancer as children and were Dream Children themselves, which inspired Matt and Kaylene Baar to launch the fundraiser. Registration and donations are online at turkeytoss.com. Are you putting a team together, or coming out for the whiskey pull?
