A ROTONDA WEST MAN WAS KILLED IN AN ACCIDENT IN PUNTA GORDA SUNDAY AFTERNOON. THE FLORIDA HIGHWAY PATROL SAYS 83 YEAR OLD PAUL ABLER WAS IN THE LEFT TURN LANE OF ACLINE ROAD AT US 41 AT AROUND 12:45PM. HE WAS STOPPED AT THE STOP SIGN, BUT THEN TRIED TO MAKE HIS LEFT AND RAN HIS LINCOLN TOWN CAR INTO THE PATH OF A DODGE CHARGER DRIVEN BY 54 YEAR OLD STEWART VANSCHEPEN OF ONTARIO, CANADA. VANSCHEPEN SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES BUT COULD NOT STOP HIS CAR AND PLOWED INTO ABLER’S DRIVER’S DOOR. THE IMPACT CAUSED BOTH VEHICLES TO SPIN OUT. ABLER WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD AT THE SCENE WHILE VANSCHEPEN AND A PASSENGER WERE NOT INJURED. TROOPERS SAY ABLER FAILED TO YIELD THE RIGHT OF WAY, SO NO CHARGES WILL BE FILED.
