A PUNTA GORDA MAN WAS SERIOUSLY INJURED AFTER BEING HIT BY A CAR LATE FRIDAY NIGHT. THE FLORIDA HIGHWAY PATROL SAYS 54 YEAR OLD HOPE SUMMEY OF NORTH PORT WAS NORTHBOUND ON I-75 NEAR US 17 IN THE OUTSIDE LANE JUST BEFORE 11PM FRIDAY. 52 YEAR OLD HERBERT GREEN WAS WALKING EAST CROSSING THE NORTHBOUND LANES OF THE ROADWAY AND WALKED DIRECTLY INTO THE PATH OF SUMMEY’S FORD FUSION. SUMMEY STEERED LEFT TO AVOID THE COLLISION BUT COULD NOT. GREEN WAS AIRLIFTED TO LEE MEMORIAL HOSPITAL IN SERIOUS CONDITION. SUMMEY WAS NOT INJURED. TROOPERS SAY THEY DON’T KNOW WHY GREEN WAS WALKING ON THE HIGHWAY, BUT THEY HAVE RULED OUT ALCOHOL. THEY ALSO SAY CHARGES ARE PENDING THE COMPLETION OF THEIR INVESTIGATION.
