THE FEDERAL AVIATION ADMINISTRATION IN ORLANDO APPROVED THE VENICE MUNICIPAL AIRPORT PLAN. VENICE MAYOR JOHN HOLIC, INTERIM CITY MANAGER NANCY WOODLEY AND AIRPORT ADMINISTRATOR CHRIS ROZANSKEY MET WITH FAA REPRESENTATIVES ON MONDAY AND RECEIVED THEIR BLESSING ON THE PLAN, WHICH CALLS FOR THE SHIFTING OF RUNWAY THIRTEEN-THIRTY ONE A BIT MORE THAN SEVEN HUNDRED FEET SOUTHEAST. THAT WILL TAKE TWENTY-FOUR HOMES OUT OF THE RUNWAY PROTECTION ZONE, LEAVING JUST TWO HOMES IN THE RPZ. THE PLAN ALSO CALLS FOR THE RECONSTRUCTION OF RUNWAY FOUR-TWENTY TWO, WHICH IS THE NOISE ABATEMENT RUNWAY. THE CITY WILL SUBMIT A GRANT APPLICATION FOR CONSTRUCTION IN THE COMING MONTHS. APPROVAL OF THE PLAN ALLOWS THE CITY TO RECEIVE FEDERAL AND STATE GRANTS OF AS MUCH AS $21 MILLION DOLLARS TO ACCOMPLISH THESE PROJECTS IN THE NEAR FUTURE.
