NORTH PORT POLICE WERE CALLED TO A NORTH PORT EMERGENCY ROOM SATURDAY REGARDING A SIX YEAR OLD BEING SHOT. THE INCIDENT HAD OCCURRED INSIDE A HOUSE IN THE 2600 BLOCK OF YAMADA LANE AT AROUND 5PM SATURDAY. THE CHILD’S INJURIES WERE DETERMINED TO BE NON LIFE THREATENING AND HE WAS TRANSFERRED TO ALL CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL IN ST. PETERSBURG IN STABLE CONDITION. TWENTY THREE YEAR OLD CHAD COUSAR WAS ARRESTED EARLY SUNDAY MORNING AND CHARGED WITH CHILD NEGLECT INVOLVING SERIOUS BODILY INJURY AND POSSESSION OF A FIREARM BY A FELON. A PUBLISHED REPORT SAYS THAT COUSAR IS THE BOYFRIEND OF THE CHILD’S MOTHER AND LIVES AT THE HOME. NO FURTHER DETAILS WERE RELEASED AND THE INCIDENT REMAINS UNDER INVESTIGATION.
