A 15-year-old arrested after Saturday’s shooting near Florida A&M University’s stadium in Tallahassee is now being charged as an adult. Anthony Rivers III was transferred from juvenile detention to the adult facility, and a judge ordered him to remain in custody. He faces 11 counts of attempted murder, one for each of the people hurt. Investigators say one victim is still in critical condition.
The case is drawing attention beyond Tallahassee’s city limits. A juvenile facing adult charges in a mass shooting near a major university campus raises questions that parents and students are already asking: how teens get access to firearms, what campus safety looks like on game weekends, and how the justice system should handle young suspects. On Friday, a hearing will address prosecutors’ request to keep Rivers jailed until trial.
For Suncoast families, the story is a reminder that these conversations aren’t limited to one campus or one city. Eleven people were hurt in a matter of moments, and one family is still at a hospital bedside waiting for news. We’ll be following Friday’s hearing and any updates on the victims’ conditions.
