A 21-year-old woman was arrested after the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office says she posted a photo of herself with a caption threatening to shoot President Trump at a rally. The Sheriff’s Domestic Security Unit and the U.S. Secret Service visited her home, where Allison Albro reportedly told them she had no access to weapons. She now faces charges of written threats to kill and unlawful use of a communications device.

Sheriff Mike Chitwood made the department’s position clear: threats to assassinate the president will not be tolerated. He also addressed people who might post similar threats as a “joke,” advising them to think carefully before doing so. President Trump was scheduled to hold a campaign rally on October 30, the same day the arrest was announced.

The case is a reminder for our Gulf Coast communities that digital posts carry real-world consequences, and local agencies work closely with federal partners on these investigations. A message typed in seconds can take far longer to answer for. What do you think: should threats posted as “jokes” online be treated as seriously as in-person threats? Weigh in on our Facebook page.
