Arcadia Flooding Worsens: Roads Cut Off as River Nears 16.5-Foot Crest

Flooding in DeSoto County has been building since Monday, and conditions in Arcadia shifted again this week. Parts of town that were drivable Wednesday are now cut off, including the road leading to the American Legion. The river was measured at roughly 16.3 feet Thursday and is forecast to crest around 16.5 feet, meaning the water still has some rising to do before it levels off.

The impact is being felt by local businesses and residents alike. Upriver Adventures is heavily flooded, and nearby fields could hold four to six feet of water, according to owner Zack Vaner. Part-time resident camper Kylah Engh said the community’s hope is simple: that everyone’s belongings stay safe and the people who live there stay OK through this process.

If your travel plans take you through Arcadia, check current road conditions before you go and never drive into water covering a roadway. Residents are looking ahead to recovery once the water recedes and life gets back to normal. Have you been affected by the flooding, or do you know someone in Arcadia who could use a hand?
