A Glendale, Arizona mother is behind bars after a terrifying scene unfolded in her home last Saturday night. Police say Kallien Heathman, 25, was found unconscious on her floor while the home filled with smoke from a pizza left burning in the microwave. Her 2-year-old child was discovered in a car seat, barely conscious and not moving. Responding officers were called by Heathman’s ex-boyfriend, who arrived to find the alarming situation and immediately contacted authorities.
Heathman’s blood alcohol content was later measured at 0.379, more than four times the legal driving limit. As officers attempted to remove her from the home, she reportedly woke up and resisted their help. A 7-year-old child was also present in the home but was uninjured. Both Heathman and the toddler were hospitalized, and she now faces one count of child abuse with bond set at $10,000.
This case is a stark reminder of how quickly things can go wrong when alcohol and childcare mix.
