Astronomical summer ends Tuesday at 8:04 p.m., and the Suncoast is sending it off with one more round of real Florida heat. Heat indices climb to 100 to 102 during the mid-afternoon, with a 50 percent chance of late-day storms. Wednesday is actually the wettest day of the week as moisture pushes through, and the humidity holds on through Thursday.
Then everything shifts. A frontal boundary moves through Friday, dragging drier air behind it and setting up a weekend that finally feels like early fall. Expect highs in the mid-to-upper 80s, very little rain, and Saturday morning lows dipping into the upper 60s inland and low 70s along the coast. Boaters get a good window too, with light winds and seas under two feet, though afternoon storms are always worth watching this time of year.
In the tropics, Tropical Storm Faye is forecast to dissipate in about four days and poses no direct threat to our area. A separate low pressure system up north could develop into a nor’easter for the Northeast, and that pattern is part of what’s delivering our cooler, drier air by the weekend.
