A Warren County, Kentucky judge denied bond Tuesday for Emonnie Branch, 51, of Portland, Tennessee, who is charged with murder in the shooting death of Kentucky State Police Trooper Hayden Phillips. Phillips, 28, was killed during a traffic stop on Interstate 65. Prosecutors argued Branch poses a flight risk and a danger to the community, citing a lengthy criminal history and a false name they say he gave officers.
Branch was arrested in Jefferson County about four hours after the shooting, after Louisville police used a grappler to stop his vehicle. He also has an outstanding Tennessee warrant for a probation violation, though his attorney says extradition has not been discussed. His next hearing in the Kentucky case is set for Friday morning.
