Kamran Curliss came to Charlotte High to catch footballs. This season, first-year head coach Kevin Claxton asked him to do something different, and the senior has turned into one of the best defenders on the Suncoast. Through four games, Curliss has 39 tackles and two interceptions, including a 21-tackle performance against Gulf Coast in Week 2 that also featured a pick. He grabbed another interception in the season-opening win over Fort Myers.
Claxton, who took over the Tarpons program this year, has built his approach around toughness, and Curliss has become the clearest example of that buy-in. The result is a 4-0 start that even Claxton says he didn’t expect. Curliss himself is quick to keep things grounded, noting that the team stays humble because they know the winning streak can end on any given Friday.
