Reggie McFadden, a stand-up comedian and actor who came up during the 1990s comedy boom, has died at 57. His sister, author Bernice L. McFadden, confirmed the death to The Hollywood Reporter on Oct. 4. She said he had been living in Tanzania and that she did not know how or when he died.
McFadden built a career on stage and screen. He performed on HBO’s “Def Comedy Jam” and had his own Comedy Central special, then moved into acting with roles on “Moesha” and “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” He was also part of the extended “In Living Color” family, the sketch show that launched a generation of comedy stars and still gets quoted around living rooms today.
His sister’s statement carried a weight a lot of families on the Suncoast will recognize: she was very sad to learn her brother had passed away so far away from home. Whether your kids live up north, your parents retired across the country, or a sibling took a job overseas, that distance is a real thing when loss hits. Tonight, the tribute is simple. Remember the laughter he gave us.
