A Philadelphia couple heading south for vacation found themselves in the middle of a 60-plus vehicle pileup on the Santee Bridge over Lake Marion in South Carolina. Kevin Cossa and Meghan Quinn were traveling on I-95 when the crash brought traffic to a standstill. After getting out to check on others and being told to clear the bridge, Cossa made a decision that turned a frightening afternoon into a story they’ll tell for the rest of their lives.
He told Quinn he had planned to propose tomorrow, but there was no better time than now. He later said he figured he wouldn’t find another moment as unique as that one. She said yes. The couple was later treated at MUSC Health Orangeburg, and the hospital publicly wished them a happy engagement and safe travels.
It’s a reminder that even on the worst traffic days, life keeps happening. For those of us here on the Suncoast who know a thing or two about bridge backups and hurricane-season detours, this one lands a little differently. Sometimes the best-laid plans get rerouted, and sometimes that’s exactly the point.
Where’s the most unexpected place you’ve ever had a big life moment happen? Tell us in the comments.
