A couple out on a jet ski near Waties Island, just off the South Carolina-North Carolina border, ended up in the middle of a dolphin pod last Wednesday. Roughly 50 dolphins surrounded them, and one got close enough that the husband had to steer sharply to avoid a collision. Kimberly Malibu-Grove caught the entire moment on video, and her footage shows just how tight the encounter really was.

Despite the close call, neither rider was hurt, and the couple left the water with a story to tell. Malibu-Grove described the experience as amazing and once-in-a-lifetime, adding that she and her husband have always had a deep love for dolphins. The video has been making the rounds online, and it’s easy to see why people are sharing it.

For those of us on the Suncoast, dolphin sightings are part of everyday life, but an encounter like this is something else entirely. It’s a reminder that you never know what’s waiting just under the surface. Have you ever had a wildlife encounter that left you speechless? Tell us about it in the comments.
