The Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office says 23-year-old Janecia Greenfield-Williams was arrested Saturday after driving 4.6 miles along Highway 258 with her boyfriend holding onto the hood of her car. Deputies report speeds reaching 60 miles per hour, with swerving along the way. Her 3-year-old child was inside the vehicle during the entire ride.

The boyfriend was assessed at the scene and released without injuries. Greenfield-Williams was taken to the Lenoir County Jail after authorities say she refused to enter the patrol vehicle. She now faces charges including felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.

The story sits at the intersection of two things we don’t talk about enough: how quickly a domestic argument can become a public safety emergency, and how much risk a child absorbs when adults lose control. The driver is the one charged, but the 3-year-old in the back seat had no say in any of it.
