DeSoto County Conducts Aerial Mosquito Treatment Following Hurricane Milton

In response to the surge in mosquito populations after Hurricane Milton, DeSoto County officials have launched aerial mosquito treatments to mitigate the issue. Starting Thursday, airplanes were deployed to target adult mosquitoes, which have become a significant concern for the region following the storm’s aftermath.

According to a statement posted on the DeSoto County Facebook page, the aerial treatments aim to provide immediate relief to first responders working on recovery efforts and to safeguard public health. The mosquito control operation is scheduled to take place during early morning and sunset hours on both Thursday and Friday, contingent on weather conditions.

County officials also urged residents to take additional precautions, including the use of EPA-approved mosquito repellents. They advised homeowners to inspect their properties for standing water in containers like bird baths, clogged gutters, children’s toys, rain barrels, and tarps, as these can serve as breeding grounds for mosquitoes.
