A DeSoto County man is facing 63 felony charges following a months-long investigation by the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office. Eugene Sampson was arrested on October 27 and charged with 61 counts of possession of child sexual abuse material and two counts of possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.
According to the sheriff’s office, detectives began investigating in June after another law enforcement agency contacted them about a child sexual abuse material case. Tips from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children involved images containing minors, and investigators connected those images to an account allegedly belonging to Sampson.
The sheriff’s office has not released a bond amount, Sampson’s current jail status, or a court date. This story highlights how national reporting systems can feed into local investigations here in Southwest Florida, and we’ll update this post as new details are confirmed.
