A UK subscription dog food company, Years, has issued a massive recall after nearly 200 dogs developed sudden bilateral dry eye, a condition that can lead to blindness if left untreated. The company pulled all its fresh meals except the Chef’s Collection while investigating a possible contamination in its buckwheat supply. As of Aug. 18, about 192 unverified cases have been reported, and the company has paused all subscriptions for six weeks during the investigation.
For pet owners, the key concern is recognizing the symptoms. Dogs affected by this condition may show excessive blinking, squinting, thick eye discharge, or pawing at their eyes. If any of these signs appear, the company is urging customers to stop feeding the food immediately and contact their veterinarian. While this recall is based in the UK, it’s a wake-up call for all of us here on the Gulf Coast, where our pets are just as much a part of the family as anyone else.
This incident also raises bigger questions about pet food supply chains and how companies handle safety issues. It’s a reminder that even the most trusted brands can face problems, and staying informed is part of being a responsible pet owner. Does this change how you’ll choose your dog’s food in the future?
