DREO model DR-HSH015 space heaters are under recall after the Consumer Product Safety Commission announced on Oct. 29 that the units can overheat and catch fire. About 338,800 were sold in the U.S., with another 36,300 in Canada, through DREO, Best Buy and Home Depot between September 2025 and October 2026. DREO has received 17 reports of ignition, including three that caused property damage and one that burned a person’s hand.
The recall lands right as Suncoast households start pulling heaters out of storage for the season. Snowbirds are arriving, overnight temperatures are dipping, and portable heaters become a daily habit for many retirees and seasonal residents. If you bought a DREO heater in the past year, check the model number on the label before plugging it in.
The remedy is free. Stop using the heater, unplug it, cut the cord, and send a photo to DREO to receive a replacement unit. Cutting the cord is intentional; it ensures the recalled heater can’t be used or resold. Have you checked the model number on your space heater yet?
