Clearwater’s BayCare Sound Amphitheatre was full this weekend for John Fogerty and Steve Winwood, the second-to-last date on their joint tour and a rare chance to see two Rock and Roll Hall of Famers share one stage on the Suncoast.
Winwood, 78, opened the night with Traffic’s “Glad” and moved through Blind Faith, Traffic, and solo material before closing with “Higher Love” and “Give Me Some Lovin’.” His band includes his daughter Lilly on backing vocals and keyboards. Fogerty followed with a career-spanning video package and a set built on fourteen Creedence Clearwater Revival songs, joined by his sons Shane and Tyler on guitar. The encore: “Travelin’ Band” and “Proud Mary.”
The show landed at a meaningful moment for Fogerty. He turns 80 this year, recently regained the rights to his music, and has a new album called “Legacy” featuring re-recorded Creedence tracks. For longtime bay area classic rock fans, that combination of history and a full house in Clearwater made for a night worth the drive over the bridge.
